About Gear Up:

Hey there! I'm Samantha Briley, owner and operator of Gear Up. We aim to break the barriers of getting outside through gear rentals, outings, and outdoor skill building workshops. While working in the outdoor industry, we’ve seen time and time again people and families wanting to get outside but can’t afford all the gear necessary; especially high quality gear that will withstand rain, wind, and other outdoor elements. Gear Up is the solution for many who want to get outside and enjoy the natural world. We’re here for you and your wanderlust for adventure.

Our mission is to educate and empower the beginner through professional adventurers to explore the outdoors through adventure activities. Through all aspects of our business, we strive toward our core values: Accessibility, Inspiration, Safety, Education, & Stewardship.

We've been practicing corporate responsibility since the very beginning of our business. We immediately joined the 1% for the Planet membership as we feel that all businesses should be giving back to our planet. 1% of our revenue goes right back to global and local efforts to reduce climate change effects, protect land, and to come up with more innovative ways to move our planet forward with the environment in mind. We want people to see the outdoors and explore our world through adventure. One can't do that without public land, clean waterways, and wilderness.

We partner with Triangle Land Conservancy to showcase their beautiful properties and raise funds for their efforts of protecting land, keeping food local, making waterways clean, and educating the public about the environment. We also teach Leave No Trace principles at all of our outings and outdoor skill-building workshops that highlight the responsibility people have when they're enjoying the outdoors.

We have some outings and outdoor skill building workshops planned for the summer to launch soon. However, we also do custom experiences (Stand Up Paddling, outdoor skills, led hikes, etc.)
